2013 in review

The WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared a 2013 annual report for this blog.

Here’s an excerpt:

A New York City subway train holds 1,200 people. This blog was viewed about 4,800 times in 2013. If it were a NYC subway train, it would take about 4 trips to carry that many people.

Curry curry puff puff…

5th November 2013

Indeed… this is a special request which I placed few days ago… and today… it being fulfilled after I forget how long… hehehe… Oh yea oh yea… Today is a very happy day… Curry puff… a traditional kuih which my mom’s family have their own recipe… I always wanted mom to show me how it was made… and finally… today I have the chance to record all the steps de… Dried chili, chili powder, red onion and also 2 stalks of lemongrass… that’s all we need for rempah~

IMG_3421

Blend in dried chili & lemon grass only… which took longer time… then, add in the red onion…

IMG_3423

Taaaa daaaaa~ The rempah…!!

IMG_3429

Cook it on the wok… until it dried up abit, then add in cooking oil…

IMG_3440

On the other hand… let’s prepare the potato…

IMG_3426

Shave the skin off~

IMG_3436

Cut it into cubes…

IMG_3441

Soak it in water to prevent it from oxidize…

IMG_3442

Dice the red onion also… Of course, will have chicken & also prawn… missed out the photo~ paiseh…!!

IMG_3433

Goreng it all together until the potato turns soft~

IMG_3444

Let it cool down… filling is done~

IMG_3448

Now… comes to the curry puff crispy skin… Very simple… oil and flour. There are 2 portion of it… Portion 1 is oil flour, the other portion is water flour…

IMG_3469

For oil flour… mix oil & flour together…

IMG_3467

Yes… believe me… just mix… easy right?

IMG_3471

Here you go… the oil flour~

IMG_3472

Next will be the water flour… Add flour, water, abit of sugar and also abit of oil too… Mix well…

IMG_3474

Here you go… 2 portions of flour…

IMG_3475

Separate the water flour into small portions…

IMG_3476

Add the oil flour in the middle…

IMG_3485

Then wrap it up like a char siew pau~

IMG_3481

Using a rolling pin, flatten the char siew pau…

IMG_3488

Roll it up again…

IMG_3489

Repeat the steps of flattening it again…

IMG_3492

And rolling it up for the last time…

IMG_3493

Here you go… transforming char siew pau into a log~

IMG_3495

Covered it up with a clean cloth so that it didn’t get dry…

IMG_3499

Let it rest for like 10-20 minutes before cutting it in the middle…

IMG_3500

See… that’s how the shell shape skin is made…

IMG_3502

Rolling pun again to flatten it… and it’s ready for assembly~

IMG_3505

Place the curry puff filling in the middle

IMG_3507

Fold it to half and joined the 2 ends together…

IMG_3511

Here you go… 1 nice curry puff coming right up~

IMG_3513

Oh oh oh… don’t forget the nice little sides also… Oh well, I have been to summer camp almost every year to practice on this skill since I was a little girl… Don’t jealous ya~
